The Journal of Popular Romance Studies (JPRS) is seeking one or more copyeditors to join our editorial team. This is a paid opportunity. We particularly welcome applications from doctoral students and early career or independent researchers.
JPRS is a double-blind peer reviewed interdisciplinary journal exploring popular romance fiction and the logics, institutions, and social practices of romantic love in global popular culture.
The appointee would copyedit up to 15 articles per year, of between 5000-10,000 words. Appointees will be asked to indicate how many articles they would be willing to review each year.
The task involves editing for grammar, syntax, spelling, punctuation, layout, consistency and clarity. The copyeditor must ensure that all submissions conform to MLA style (8th edition) and US or UK English.
The appointed person must be able to demonstrate:
- Excellent written English;
- A familiarity with academic research (a knowledge of popular romance research would be a bonus);
- An ability to pay close attention to detail;
- Being able to work to a deadline.
Prior experience of proofreading or copyediting would be desirable, but is not required. The role is remunerated via a flat fee of $50 for short articles (up to 5000 words), and $100 for long articles (over 5000 words). The role can be filled by multiple appointees.
Please send applications consisting of a covering letter (max 2 pages) and CV (max 3 pages) to Dr Amy Burge at firstname.lastname@example.org by 31 October 2021.
